Thriston Lawrence secured his second Omega European Masters title with a remarkable comeback, finishing two strokes ahead of Matt Wallace, Rasmus Højgaard, and Sami Välimäki. The South African golfer, who had not won a DP World Tour event since 2022, displayed resilience after a challenging start to the final round.

A Rocky Start

Starting the final round with a one-shot lead, Lawrence faced early adversity. He bogeyed the first three holes, falling behind Wallace and Fitzpatrick. However, Lawrence regained his composure, making an eagle on the par-4 sixth hole and adding five birdies to finish with a four-under 66. This performance secured him a total score of 22-under par.

Strong Competition

Matt Wallace, the defending champion, posted a final-round 67, while Rasmus Højgaard delivered the round of the day with a 62. Sami Välimäki also finished strong with a 65. Matt Fitzpatrick, another Ryder Cup hopeful, ended the tournament in fifth place with a 19-under total.

Emotional Victory

Lawrence’s victory was particularly poignant, marking his first DP World Tour title since December 2022. The win was especially meaningful as it came just before the announcement of the European Ryder Cup team, with Lawrence’s performance adding to the anticipation surrounding the selections.
