Matt Wallace narrowly missed out on securing a second consecutive Omega European Masters title on Sunday, finishing two shots behind winner Thriston Lawrence. The Englishman led for much of the final round but signed for a closing 67 at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
A Heartfelt Performance
Wallace’s impressive display came just before European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald was set to announce his six picks for this month’s showpiece. The 35-year-old admitted to having a “heavy heart” upon returning to Crans-Montana last week. Reflecting on the week, Wallace said, “Yeah, it was good. Could have been a couple better. That shot into the 14th killed me really. But I gave it my all and hit some good shots coming in.”
Ryder Cup Aspirations
A visibly emotional Wallace struggled to finish his interview as he added, “I’d never give up on the Ryder Cup. I just won’t, so that’s it.” His commitment to representing Europe remained unwavering despite the setback.
