golf6 1

Bad weather disrupted the Villanova men’s golf team at the Mountaineer Invitational, halting play on Monday after just 27 holes due to lightning and heavy rain at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Despite the interruption, the Wildcats currently hold 10th place among 14 teams, staying within reach of a higher finish as conditions improve.

Villanova opened the tournament with a tough round, scoring a collective 25-over par. However, by the time storms forced a delay in the second round, the team had improved significantly, scoring three-over collectively and showing signs of a possible turnaround.

Individual Highlights

  • Vibhav Alokam (Freshman): After carding a 75 (+5) in the first round, he played his second round even-par through 11 holes. Two birdies positioned him in a tie for 25th, with the potential to move into the top 20.
  • Jackson Lehner (Senior): Bounced back from an opening-round 80 (+8) with a one-under performance over 10 second-round holes. He now sits tied for 40th at +7 overall.
  • Matt Zerfass (Junior): Recorded a 5-over first round and added 4-over on the back nine of his second round.
  • Gus Vickers (Graduate Student): Even-par through 10 in round two, helped by two birdies, despite a 10-over first round.
  • Ryan Pamer (Junior): Struggled overall at +14, but managed two early birdies showing glimpses of promise.

Looking Ahead

With play set to resume Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. via a rolling restart, Villanova has 27 holes left. The team’s success will depend on harnessing the momentum it began building just before the weather delay.
