The Villanova Wildcats wrapped up their regular season with a 14th place finish at the Mountaineer Invitational in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The event was hosted at the challenging Pete Dye Golf Club, where the team posted a total score of 943, finishing 79-over-par. Over two days marked by fierce competition and unpredictable weather, the Wildcats showed brief moments of brilliance but ultimately struggled to maintain consistency.
After a weather delay disrupted the opening round, Villanova rebounded with an impressive 10-over 298 in round two, the fourth-best team score of the round. However, the final round dashed hopes of a top finish, with the Wildcats posting a difficult 332.
Individual Performances
- Vibhav Alokam led Villanova by tying for 48th overall with a +18 (234) total. His second-round 74 stood out, but his final-round 83 reflected the team’s broader struggles.
- Jackson Lehner, a senior, recorded the team’s only even-par round of the tournament with a 72 in the second round, thanks to four birdies. He ended tied for 64th at +21.
- Gus Vickers, a graduate student, shot a 1-over 73 in round two but fell to 84 in the final round, tying for 71st in the standings.
- Matt Zerfass posted consistent scores over the course of the second day, finishing tied for 57th.
- Ryan Pamer ended his weekend tied for 94th, struggling to find rhythm throughout the competition.
The Competition
Oklahoma State dominated the field by winning both team and individual honors. The Cowboys posted an even-par 864 total, while Eric Lee claimed the individual title. Their performance underscored the high level of play present at the Mountaineer Invitational.
