A new initiative is making golf more accessible than ever for young players in Rochester, thanks to the launch of the “Golf with Us” program. This effort allows children between the ages of 6 and 18 to play rounds at participating golf courses for $5 or less.
The program is a collaboration between Bank of America and Youth on Course, a nonprofit committed to removing financial barriers from the sport. As part of the initiative, youth receive a complimentary one-year Youth on Course membership, giving them access to discounted rates at various courses throughout the area.
Participating courses include:
- Genesee Valley Golf Course
- Champion Hills Country Club
- Webster Golf Club
- Durand Eastman
- Lake Shore Country Club
- The Golf Club at Blue Heron Hills
Beyond affordability, the program is designed to instill important values in young people. According to program backers, experiences on the course can help kids build confidence, discipline, and integrity.
This initiative arrives at a time when golf is trying to break away from its reputation of exclusivity. Escalating costs for gear and course access have historically kept many families out of the game. “Golf with Us” seeks to turn that around, especially in areas where golf has not been widely accessible before.
Colleen Matteson, president of Bank of America Rochester, said, “Sports and initiatives like Golf with Us have the power to help young people develop crucial life skills that are applicable on and off the course.”
Time is of the essence — the enrollment deadline is May 24th, and families are encouraged to sign up soon to take full advantage of the program.
