English brothers Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick will reunite this week with hopes of making a breakthrough as a team at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The PGA Tour’s only team event offers a rare opportunity for the siblings to compete side by side, with 74 two-man teams chasing the title.
Both players arrive in strong form, raising expectations ahead of the tournament. Matt Fitzpatrick, currently ranked world No. 3 behind Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, secured his second win of the season at the RBC Heritage after edging Scheffler in a playoff. The 2022 U.S. Open champion also claimed victory at the Valspar Championship earlier this year. “It’s been a nice start to the year for both of us,” Matt said. “We feel like we have as good a chance as anyone.”
Meanwhile, Alex Fitzpatrick recently celebrated a milestone of his own, capturing his first European tour title at the Indian Open in March. The Zurich Classic stands apart from regular PGA Tour events, featuring a mix of best ball and alternate shot formats across four rounds.
A win does not grant entry into the Masters, but each player earns an official PGA Tour victory and a two year exemption, which is especially significant for Alex as he is not a full-time member.
The Fitzpatricks have played this event together for the past three years, with their best result being a tie for 11th in 2024, while they missed the cut last season. This year, Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick return with renewed confidence and belief that they can contend. “Obviously, this year with the form we’ve both been in, the expectations are high,” Alex said, adding that it also allows them to enjoy the week more.
They will face competition from several notable pairings, including Shane Lowry and Brooks Koepka, as well as defending champions Ben Griffin and Andrew Novak.
With confidence high and momentum on their side, the Fitzpatrick brothers now have a genuine opportunity to turn family chemistry into PGA Tour success.
