Eastern Michigan Men’s Golf Wraps Up Lake Las Vegas Invitational

The Eastern Michigan Men’s Golf team concluded their performance at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, securing a 12th-place finish in the tournament held at Reflection Bay Golf Club from February 24-26. The Eagles posted a final score of 18 over 882 (300-290-292), struggling to crack the top 10 in a highly competitive field.

McDonald-O’Brien Leads the Eagles

Among the Eagles, Rory McDonald-O’Brien emerged as the team’s standout player. The Shrewsbury, England native recorded a 1-over 217 (72-74-71), placing tied for 28th—his second-lowest tournament total of the season. He narrowly missed matching his best performance at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational by a single stroke.

Additionally, Daniel Robles Delval and Tim Chan both finished at 5-over 221, tying for 42nd place. For Robles Delval, this score mirrored his previous tournament result and ranked as his second-best of the season. James Baxter followed behind with an 8-over 224 (77-72-75), securing a tie for 56th place.

Some Eastern Michigan golfers struggled on the 7,204-yard, par-72 course. Pietro Fenoglio had difficulty finding his rhythm, finishing at 22-over 238, ranking 89th. Additionally, individual competitors Matthew Rastogi (20-over 236) and Lucas Hughes (23-over 239) placed outside the top 80, reflecting the challenging conditions they faced.

Where the Eagles Stood in the Competition

The Lake Las Vegas Invitational saw a dominant performance from Long Beach State, which claimed the title with a 34-under 830 finish. The top four teams were:

  • Long Beach State: 34 (830)
  • Northern Illinois: 9 (855)
  • West Virginia: 8 (856)
  • Stetson: 7 (857)

Eastern Michigan’s 12th-place finish positioned them ahead of Southern Illinois, Long Island, and George Washington, but still outside the top half of the field.

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, the Eagles shift their focus to the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Arizona, scheduled for March 7-8. Hosted by the University of Michigan, the event will take place at the Outlaw Course of Desert Mountain Golf Club, featuring a 17-team field.
