Hannah Green has done it again. The Australian star claimed the JM Eagle LA Championship on Sunday for the third time in four years, holing a clutch 12-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff to seal a dramatic victory at El Caballero.
Green looked to be out of contention on the back nine, finding herself six strokes behind playing partner Sei Young Kim at the 11th green. But she refused to give up, closing with a 4-under 68 to join Kim and Jin Hee Im at 17-under 271 and force a playoff.
On the par-4 18th, Green hit a wedge from 130 yards and curled in a right-to-left breaking putt to win after Kim left a 35-foot birdie attempt short.
“I had that putt, obviously very similar line in regulation, so I felt somewhat comfortable,” Green said. “It still was a tough putt, so really glad it went in the hole.”
The comeback was built on a brilliant stretch of golf. After Kim chipped in for eagle on 11 to extend her lead, Green birdied the same hole, then went on to birdie holes 13 through 16. She narrowly missed a 5-foot eagle putt on 16 before Kim’s bogey on the par-3 17th brought the trio level heading into the final hole.
“I honestly didn’t think I was in the tournament still,” Green admitted. “I was just like, oh well, just go for as many pins as possible. I kind of thought the putt I missed on 16 was the crucial moment. I’m just fortunate enough that I at least got into the playoff.”
Kim, who had led by eight strokes with five holes to play in Saturday’s third round, was left frustrated. “Just a little disappointed because I had a good chance for the win,” she said. “But she played well. Strong finish back nine.”
Im was penalised a stroke for slow play on Saturday and reached the 18th green in three after a wayward drive, ending her playoff chances.
The 29-year-old Green, who also won the JM Eagle LA Championship in 2023 and 2024 at Wilshire Country Club, joined Hyo Joo Kim as the only two-time winners on the LPGA Tour this season. The victory also took her worldwide 2026 win total to four, adding to her HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore, the Women’s Australian Open, and the Australian WPGA. She now has eight career LPGA Tour titles.
Ina Yoon finished a stroke outside the playoff after a 69, while Patty Tavatanakit and Haeran Ryu were 14 under. Amateur Asterisk Talley, just 17 years old, tied for 13th at 9 under in her first event since the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
The LPGA Tour heads to Houston next, where the Chevron Championship, the first women’s major of the year, gets underway on Thursday.
