Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler have officially announced their four-man teams for the upcoming Optum Golf Channel Games, scheduled for December 17 at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida. The made-for-TV event promises a fresh take on golf, blending entertainment and competition under the lights.

McIlroy’s Team Mixes Experience and Flair

McIlroy’s lineup includes fellow Irishman Shane Lowry, Europe’s Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, and the energetic Haotong Li, a four-time DP World Tour winner known for his personality on and off the course. The Northern Irishman, who played a key role at the 2025 Ryder Cup, aims to bring chemistry and creativity to the format.

Scheffler Builds a Strong U.S. Squad

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has assembled a competitive American team featuring his close friend Sam Burns, rising college standout Luke Clanton, and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley. Their mix of youth, skill, and leadership sets the stage for a lively showdown.

A Night of Challenges Under the Lights

Unlike traditional tournaments, the Golf Channel Games will feature five creative challenges designed to test precision, teamwork, and speed.

Golf Channel Games Format

Timed Drive, Chip, and Putt:
Players race to complete a set of shots across driving, chipping, and putting disciplines.

14-Club Challenge:
Players alternate selecting clubs from a shared bag in a closest-to-the-pin contest. Once a club is used, it’s out of play.

Timed Shootout:
Teams play alternate shots across three holes, racing to finish with the best score in the least time.

Captain’s Challenge:
McIlroy and Scheffler face off directly, hitting shots from different locations, wedge, pitch, bunker, and long putts, with the lowest total distance to the hole winning.

A Familiar Rivalry Renewed

This isn’t the first time McIlroy and Scheffler have gone head-to-head in a showcase event. Last year, they teamed up to defeat Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in “The Showdown” in Las Vegas.

The Golf Channel Games will air live in primetime on Golf Channel and USA Network, bringing fans a fast-paced, entertaining twist on golf’s biggest stars.
