Jon Rahm will head into the off-season with a longer rest period than ever before, following the first full calendar year of his professional career without an individual tournament victory. Although he added a second straight LIV Golf individual title and was part of a winning Ryder Cup team, Rahm couldn’t capture a win on either the PGA Tour or in his limited major starts.
He posted four runner-up finishes on LIV, and his best in majors and European Tour events was a tie for seventh. His strongest chance outside LIV came at the PGA Championship, he was tied with Scottie Scheffler on Sunday, but faltered on the back nine with a tough finish of bogey, double bogey, double bogey.
Embracing Unusual Down Time
Rahm told reporters in Spain, after finishing tied for ninth at the Spanish Open, that he won’t compete again until the LIV season restarts on February 5 in Saudi Arabia. It will be the longest break he’s ever taken between competitive stretches. “I’ve never had three months off, but I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
He added that he’s grateful to be able to spend time with family, rest his body and reset mentally. He also reflected that if the break proves to be too long, he might adjust his schedule in future seasons.
