The Purdue women’s golf team heads to The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas, this weekend with strong momentum and a long-standing tradition of postseason success. As they take part in the NCAA Lubbock Regional, they aim to finish among the top five teams to secure a spot at the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California, set for May 16–21.
Veteran Talent and Rising Stars
This year’s lineup showcases a mix of experience and fresh energy. Leading the charge is senior Momo Sugiyama, a reliable presence with a 73.56 stroke average and a top-150 national ranking. She’s joined by Natasha Kiel, ranked No. 60 nationally, who has earned three individual victories this season and contributed two hole-in-ones.
- Samantha Brown – standout freshman who leads in pars and hole-in-ones
- Jocelyn Bruch – senior with 43 career starts and a key role in last year’s regional success
- Lauren Timpf – consistent freshman with solid rounds under pressure
A Competitive Field Awaits
Purdue, seeded No. 7, enters a tight race against powerhouse programs such as Texas, Wake Forest, Arizona, and Texas A&M. Set on a challenging 6,700-yard course with wind-swept fairways and tricky greens, every hole at The Rawls Course could determine the difference in qualifying for Nationals.
With the opening round moved to Sunday due to weather, the Boilermakers will have three days and 54 holes to prove their mettle. Their ability to maintain consistency and strategic execution will be vital.
Season Highlights Fuel Confidence
Purdue boasts a No. 43 national ranking and has won two titles this season—the Boilermaker Classic and the Coach Mo Classic. It’s the first time since 2005–2011 that the team has logged back-to-back seasons with multiple tournament wins.
- Five team hole-in-ones – most in the nation
- Four different players with Top 10 finishes this spring
- Multiple individual honors for Natasha Kiel, including All-Big Ten Second Team
Under third-year head coach Zack Byrd, the team has regained its identity and focus. Their impressive runner-up finish at last year’s regional proves they have what it takes. But as the field grows stronger, the challenge becomes steeper.
Can Purdue deliver under pressure and return to the NCAA Championships stage? The next 54 holes will tell the story.
