In a remarkable start to this year’s collegiate spring golf season, San Diego State senior Justin Hastings has been crowned the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week for January 30, 2025. The announcement was made by the conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Hailing from the Cayman Islands, Justin Hastings received the honor following his stellar performance at the Southwestern Invitational, where he achieved a 4-under-par 209, tying for second place in a challenging 75-player field.
But his accomplishment goes beyond numbers; he competed against a standout roster, including 20 nationally-ranked golfers, six of whom are in the top-25 rankings.
Performance Against Elite Competition
Justin Hastings not only held his own but surpassed most of this highly ranked group, notably tying with the World No. 1 collegiate golfer, Daniel Bennett of Texas. His consistency throughout the three-day event drew significant attention.
He opened with a round of 2-under 69, followed by an even-par 71 in the second round, and closed with another impressive 69.
