A month ago, Tiger Woods gave golf fans a reason for optimism. Speaking ahead of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, the 15-time major champion hinted that a return at the Masters Tournament was not off the table.

At the time, Woods, recovering from multiple surgeries, including a lumbar disc replacement, suggested he could be back in action at Augusta National Golf Club. He also planned to attend the Champions Dinner hosted by Rory McIlroy and hoped to compete soon after.

Recovery Progress Remains Inconsistent

With the Masters now just weeks away, Woods’ outlook has become more cautious. Speaking after a TGL match involving Jupiter Links, the 50-year-old provided a more realistic update on his recovery.

He explained that his condition varies day to day. Some days, he can move freely and train. On others, even basic movement is difficult. Woods noted that recovery has slowed due to age and the number of surgeries he has undergone, including multiple back procedures.

He also referenced Will Zalatoris, who experienced a similar surgery, to highlight that recovery from disc replacement takes time.

Masters Return Still Unclear

Earlier, Woods had considered playing a tournament before the Masters to test his readiness. That now appears uncertain. He also downplayed the possibility of playing in the TGL Finals, choosing instead to rely on teammates like Max Homa, Tom Kim, Akshay Bhatia, and Kevin Kisner.

Woods admitted that injuries over the past year, including a ruptured Achilles tendon, have made his comeback difficult.

With no competitive appearance since The Open Championship in 2024, his status for Augusta remains uncertain. While he is known for returning against the odds, his latest update suggests a Masters comeback is far from confirmed.
