Ruoning Yin delivered a masterclass in her final round at the Buick Shanghai, shooting an impressive 8-under 64 to claim her fourth career LPGA title. The 20-year-old Chinese sensation entered the final round just one stroke behind Japan’s Mao Saigo but surged ahead with a near-flawless back nine performance. Birdies on five of the last six holes solidified her victory, as she finished with a commanding 25-under-par 263 at the Qizhong Garden Golf Club.
Ruoning Yin’s Strong Finish Secures Victory
Ruoning Yin‘s remarkable precision and poise in the tournament’s final moments highlighted her growing prominence in women’s golf. Even though she was behind after three rounds, Yin demonstrated impressive resilience, particularly on the closing holes. Her unyielding flurry of birdies put pressure on her competitors who found it difficult to keep up.
Mao Saigo, who was looking for her first LPGA Tour win, couldn’t maintain her lead, finishing with a 1-under 71. She tied for second place with South Korean golfer Sei Young Kim, who posted a solid 68, both ending the tournament at 19-under 269—six strokes behind Yin. Saigo’s early momentum faded, but Yin’s calm under pressure made the difference.
Yin’s Triumph Amid Strong Competition
The final leaderboard saw standout performances, including Yealimi Noh from the U.S., who carded a 67 on Sunday to finish fourth, seven strokes behind Yin. South Korea’s Hye-Jin Choi recorded the lowest round of the tournament with a remarkable 62, securing a tie for fifth place, nine shots off the lead.
Even though some of the LPGA’s top players, such as Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko, did not participate in this event, Ruoning Yin delivered one of the season’s most extraordinary performances. Her capacity to capitalize on opportunities and finish the tournament with remarkable dominance underscores her emergence as a formidable contender on the tour.
