Jon Rahm supports LIV Golf shifting to a traditional 72-hole structure instead of its current 54-hole, shotgun-start format. He believes this change would align LIV more closely with major tournament formats and boost its credibility for world ranking inclusion. Rahm stressed the need to preserve LIV’s identity while demonstrating it can meet global competitive standards.
Introducing a Cut and Expanding the League
Rahm also floated the idea of implementing a halfway cut, provided LIV expands to about 15 teams and 60 players. In such a scenario, a cut becomes feasible and could enhance event competitiveness. While acknowledging logistical challenges under the current setup, he sees this as a plausible step if the league grows.
Strategy to Earn OWGR Recognition
Rahm emphasized his desire for LIV to gain world ranking points and has outlined these format changes as incremental steps toward that goal. He sees OWGR as a path toward legitimacy and access to majors for LIV players. Rahm believes adopting tweaks like an extra round or a cut would significantly strengthen LIV’s case without sacrificing its core concept.
