Padraig Harrington Reacts to Son’s Ace at PNC Championship

The 2024 PNC Championship, held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, was a spectacle of family-oriented golf drama, filled with exciting moments from the next generation of golf prodigies.

Among these unforgettable highlights was Paddy Harrington—the 21-year-old son of three-time major champion Padraig Harrington—making his first-ever hole-in-one at the tournament.

One of the standout moments of the championship was Paddy Harrington acing the eighth hole during the second round. This remarkable achievement was a first in his young golfing career.

The ace, which came on the par-3 eighth hole, brought thunderous applause from the crowd and a beaming smile to his father, who was there to witness the moment firsthand.

Padraig Harrington, who has been one of the most prominent figures in golf over the years, later described the experience as “sheer joy.” It was a proud moment for the 52-year-old Irish legend to see his son perform so brilliantly on such a high-profile stage.

While Paddy has stated that he doesn’t aim to pursue golf professionally, moments like this showcase his potential to shine whenever he tees it up.

A Solid Team Harrington Performance

The father-son duo of Padraig and Paddy Harrington brought their A-game to the PNC Championship. After an excellent first round, where the pair carded an impressive 12-under-par 60, they continued to deliver solid results.

Despite being one of the fledgling teams to watch, Team Harrington finished the tournament tied for third place with a total score of 23-under-par.

The only blemish on their near-flawless gameplay came in the form of a bogey on the sixth hole during the final round. Otherwise, their chemistry and perseverance across the challenging Ritz-Carlton course were exemplary.

Adding to the sentimental value of the tournament was the evident family dynamic between Padraig and his son. Known for his candid personality, Padraig has always prioritized that his sons enjoy playing the sport rather than feel any pressure to pursue it professionally.

Watching Paddy enjoy success on the course, especially with a stunning hole-in-one, was a testament to this philosophy.

Comparing the Generations: Paddy Harrington vs. Charlie Woods

The focus on the next generation of golfers was one of the key highlights at this year’s PNC Championship. Alongside Paddy Harrington was Charlie Woods, the son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods.

Much like Paddy, Charlie made headlines with a jaw-dropping hole-in-one during the tournament. His ace came on the par-3 fourth hole, where he delivered a perfect shot using a seven-iron from 175 yards.

Despite these spectacular aces from both young golfers, neither Team Harrington nor Team Woods was able to clinch the championship title. That honor went to Bernhard Langer and his son Jason in an intense playoff—a testament to the competitive spirit of the event.
