Following dog bite, Nelly Korda returns at Evian Championship:https://t.co/dkbH1TsmB8
Nelly Korda is making a comeback at this week’s Amundi Evian Championship, the fourth of five women’s majors this year, after a challenging period both on and off the course.
Korda’s last appearance saw her struggle with a two-way miss at Sahalee, leading to her third consecutive missed cut, including two in majors, at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Adding to her woes, Korda was bitten by a dog at a coffee shop in Seattle.
Nelly Korda has been discreet about the dog bite, only sharing that it occurred on her thigh and is “getting better.” She took a week off after the KPMG incident before resuming practice with her coach, Jamie Mulligan.
“Didn’t even look at my clubs after KPMG,” Korda said on Wednesday in France. “I was just healing. Then I’ve been practicing. Jamie, my coach, came in for two days to practice with me. I practiced the past week and tried to get ready for this event. … I feel like I just got loose. I had a two-way miss and that was pretty difficult at Sahalee. I wasn’t really dialed at all. Just tried to get the swing dialed and give myself one key to work on.”
Despite her recent struggles, Korda isn’t far removed from a dominant stretch earlier this year, where she won six of seven starts, culminating in her victory at the Mizuho Americas Open in mid-May.
Reflecting on her recent experiences, Korda said, “I think I’ve gone through every emotion possible, and it’s just July, on the golf course. You know, I love this game. I love the bad, I love the good. The bad makes you appreciate the good and that’s just how it is. It’s sports. If you care so deeply about it, you’re just going to go through the wave of the roller coaster.”
As Korda returns to competition, fans and followers are eager to see her regain her form once again on the major stage.
