Rory McIlroy commented on the newly released 2026 PGA Tour schedule, noting the addition of the Miami Championship, which increases the total number of high-stakes, limited-field events from eight to nine over a six-week span. He described this stretch, bookended by two majors and three signature events, as a positive development that helps maintain momentum through the spring golf season. McIlroy acknowledged it’s a hefty workload but noted most events are conveniently located on the East Coast.

Strategic Scheduling and Personal Choice

Without any fines for skipping signature events, McIlroy emphasized his freedom to arrange his own schedule based on what fits his life. This year, that meant skipping events like the RBC Heritage, the Memorial Tournament, The Sentry, and the St. Jude Championship. He may skip fewer, or the same number, next year, but insists he will continue structuring his calendar to accommodate personal and professional priorities.

Impact on Rising Players

With the addition of another signature event and the removal of a full-field event (the Mexico Open), top-tier event access becomes tougher for those outside the usual qualifiers. Players ranked 51–60 or those graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour will face increased pressure to earn their spots through performance. McIlroy cited examples like Jacob Bridgeman and Andrew Novak, who worked their way into signature events this year, as inspiration for those on the bubble.
