Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick Make History in Zurich Classic Win

Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick Zurich Classic Win

Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick made history with a dramatic victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, becoming the first brothers to win together on the PGA Tour.

The English duo held their nerve in a tense final round, securing a one-shot win after a decisive birdie on the 18th hole. The result marks another milestone in an already impressive season for Matt Fitzpatrick, while also delivering a career-defining breakthrough for Alex Fitzpatrick.

The pair entered the final round with a four-shot lead but faced mounting pressure on the back nine. A double bogey on the 12th and another dropped shot at the 14th allowed challengers to catch up, with both Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura, along with Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer, setting the clubhouse target at 30 under.

Needing a birdie at the final hole to avoid a playoff, the brothers delivered under pressure. After Alex found a bunker with his approach, Matt produced a brilliant shot to within close range, setting up a simple finish to seal the win. “It was a struggle,” Matt said. “I said just give us a chance at the last, and to hit a shot like that, it was nice to give him an easy one.”

For Alex, the moment was particularly special. “It won’t sink in yet. It’s as good as it gets,” he said. “It’s amazing to be with him.”

Prize Money and Benefits

The victory also comes with significant rewards. The Fitzpatricks shared the tournament’s $2.745 million top prize, earning $1,372,750 each along with 400 FedExCup points.

Beyond the financial reward, the win carries major career benefits, particularly for Alex. He secures a two-year PGA Tour exemption through 2028 and gains entry into upcoming signature events, the PGA Championship and next year’s Players Championship.

With this success, Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick have not only secured a memorable title but also etched their names into PGA Tour history with a rare family achievement.
