Mark Carnevale, PGA Tour Winner and Broadcaster, Dies at 64

Mark Carnevale, a respected PGA Tour winner and prominent golf broadcaster, passed away suddenly at the age of 64, according to the PGA Tour. Carnevale, who had recently worked his final tournament for Sirius XM Radio, died unexpectedly just a week after his last broadcast.

After winning the 1992 Chattanooga Classic and being recognized as the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, Carnevale’s career skyrocketed in both golfing and broadcasting. Not only did he attain triumph on what is now known as the Korn Ferry Tour, but his extensive knowledge of golf coupled with charismatic commentary propelled him to become a recognizable voice in this sport – serving as lead announcer for Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio since 2005. Having covered events such as the Scottish Open recently, he was expected to work at this week’s anticipated event, the M Open.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan paid tribute to Mark Carnevale Carnevale, saying, “He was a member of that elite club, a PGA Tour winner, and then he held numerous roles within the industry, most recently as a significant voice in PGA Tour Radio’s coverage. Mark knew the game and did a terrific job of conveying insights from his unique point of view — and with an engaging wit and sense of humor.”

Carnevale’s impact on golf was not limited to his triumphs while playing. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, the son of college basketball coach Ben Carnevale, he eventually relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia, where he attended James Madison University and played collegiate golf. His presence, both as a player and broadcaster, will be cherished by those involved with the sport of golf.

The sudden loss of Mark Carnevale has left a void in the world of golf broadcasting and among fans who admired his insightful and charismatic presence.
