Lydia Ko Sticks to Retirement Plan Despite Recent Triumphs

Lydia Ko, the accomplished golf player who gained fame at 27, has confirmed her intent to retire from professional golf before reaching age thirty. Her decision stands firm despite triumphs in Olympic games and AIG Women’s Open events. Even though she had been a prominent figure in women’s golf for many years, this South Korean-born New Zealander claimed that her recent achievements did not sway her previously established retirement goal.

Lydia Ko, who became the youngest player to win a professional tournament at 14, emphasized that she wants to leave the sport while performing well. “I know I’m probably never playing past 30,” Ko told Radio New Zealand. “What has happened in the last few weeks doesn’t change my timeline. I want to leave the game while I’m still playing well.”

Lydia Ko Unwavering in Retirement Plan Despite Major Wins

Recently married and enjoying life as a “dog mom,” Ko expressed that golf is no longer her sole focus. “Golf, it’s just part of me, but that’s not me as a whole,” she added. Despite her strong stance, Ko said she would consult her family before making final decisions.

Lydia Ko’s retirement plan follows a challenging period in her career, where she didn’t win any LPGA tournaments or majors last year. However, she did secure wins at the Saudi Ladies International and the Grant Thornton Invitational. Her recent Olympic success, after winning silver and bronze, marked a significant turnaround in her career.

As she contemplates her future, Ko remains committed to her plan, determined to exit the sport on her terms and focus on new chapters in her life.
