Lydia Ko had a bogey-free round with an eagle on the par-5 eighth, finishing with a 66 at the Kroger Queen City Championship. However, Jeeno Thitikul surged ahead late on Friday with three birdies in her final four holes, securing a 6-under 66 and taking the lead by one shot over Ko at 12-under 132 heading into the weekend.
Lydia Ko’s Stellar Round Keeps Her in Contention
Playing after a three-week break, Lydia Ko showed no signs of rust, making a key eagle on the 8th hole that helped keep her in the chase for the lead. “I felt left out because both Charley Hull and Rose Zhang had eagle chances, but I managed to hole it from off the green,” Ko said of her impressive eagle.
Jeeno Thitikul, meanwhile, made birdies on all the par 5s at TPC River’s Bend, setting herself up for a strong finish with birdies on three of the last four holes. “I just want to play my game and control my side,” Thitikul said, showing her focus on maintaining her momentum.
With Lydia Ko and Thitikul leading the charge, Haeran Ryu also made waves, finishing two shots behind after posting the lowest round of the day with a 65.
As the tournament heads into the weekend, Lydia Ko remains a strong contender, looking to add another title to her already impressive year.
