LIV Golf Signs Multi-Year TV Deal With Fox Sports

LIV Golf, the breakaway league backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, has made headlines once again by securing a milestone “multi-year media deal with Fox Sports”.

This new partnership reflects LIV Golf’s ongoing efforts to enhance its broadcasting reach and audience engagement after mixed results from its prior arrangements. Here’s what this latest development means for the league and its bid to reshape the golf landscape.

What the Fox Sports Deal Entails

Beginning with LIV Golf’s 2025 season opener in Saudi Arabia, the agreement ensures that over 50% of the league’s annual events will air on Fox’s broadcasting platforms, including FS1 and FS2.

Moreover, live coverage will span nearly all 210 hours of competition, with select rounds available on the Fox Business Network. This represents a significant upgrade in exposure compared to the league’s previous efforts with The CW Network.

LIV Golf will retain production control and ensure that familiar on-air talent continues to oversee its broadcasts, a decision that aligns with the operational model seen in its earlier deals.

The partnership with Fox Sports is being hailed as a pivotal moment in LIV Golf’s evolution. According to league insiders and prominent players like Brooks Koepka, this deal raises LIV Golf’s credibility considerably, bridging the gap between its controversial reputation and its aspirations to be one of golf’s premier competitions.

The deal also coincides with an important leadership transition within LIV Golf. Scott O’Neill, an experienced executive from the NHL and NBA, will step in as the CEO, replacing Greg Norman. This change indicates a potential shift in LIV Golf’s long-term planning and operational direction.

A Step Up from Previous Broadcast Ventures

After its inception, LIV Golf partnered with The CW Network for the 2023 season. While the league made efforts to expand its viewership, the reality fell short, with many events drawing fewer than 100,000 viewers.

This limited reach raised questions about LIV’s ability to compete with the PGA Tour in capturing mainstream golf fans’ attention.

Fox Sports, a much more prominent player in the sports broadcasting arena, provides LIV Golf with a more widely recognized platform and the potential to significantly increase its audience base.

The partnership with Fox Sports certainly gives LIV Golf the boost it needs to attract wider audiences and sponsors while maintaining its player-first ethos. However, its sustainability will depend on whether it can sustain viewership and deliver a competitive and entertaining product to fans worldwide.
