Jon Rahm’s primary season faced another setback as he announced his withdrawal from the US Open due to a painful foot injury. Rahm, the 2021 US Open champion, arrived at Pinehurst wearing a flip-flop on his left foot to keep the area dry and expedite healing.
Rahm revealed that the injury, a lesion between his pinky and ring toes on his left foot, had become infected. Despite receiving a pain-killing injection during a recent LIV Golf event in Houston, the pain persisted, forcing him to withdraw mid-round.
Rahm stated that although the infection has been contained, he is still experiencing swelling and pain. He highlighted that his withdrawal was a result of discussions with several medical professionals, as well as consideration for his overall health in the future. On social media, Rahm conveyed intense disappointment regarding the situation.
After a challenging season that included placing tied for 45th at the Masters and missing the cut at the PGA Championship, Rahm has withdrawn. Despite facing criticism over his performance since joining LIV Golf, he stood by his form, stating, “I haven’t been playing poorly even though some of you may suggest otherwise. I just had two weeks off.”
Despite his setback, Rahm is still optimistic to recover quickly and resume competing. He has even included the upcoming LIV event in Nashville on his agenda. In light of this, Jackson Suber has been designated as the substitute for Rahm at the US Open tournament.
