Securing his initial victory on the PGA Tour after almost seven years, Jhonattan Vegas emerged victorious in a thrilling finale at the 3M Open by making a birdie on the last hole. On Sunday, Vegas scored an impressive 1-under-par 70 and ended with 17-under par for four rounds-267; he beat Max Greyserman by only one shot to earn second place.
Jhonattan Vegas, 39, from Venezuela, last won the Canadian Open in 2017. This victory marks his fourth career PGA Tour win. “We’re just trying to have a great week, and obviously, a great week turned into a win,” Vegas said, reflecting on the moment.
Despite a significant wait on the 18th tee, Vegas remained calm and composed. He executed an accurate drive that led to a follow-up 7-iron approach toward the far-left side of the green, leaving him with a lengthy putt spanning ninety-six feet. Despite mounting tension during this critical moment in gameplay, Vegas managed it expertly by securing his victory by sinking an easy birdie putt moments later.
Jhonattan Vegas felt discomfort when playing under a significant medical extension due to elbow and shoulder surgeries. “It was a nightmare, but luckily, I stayed calm, and I was able to play pretty solid and not make huge mistakes,” he said.
Max Greyserman, a 29-year-old rookie, made a strong push with an 8-under 63, highlighted by a birdie on the 18th. Despite this, Vegas’ consistent performance saw him prevail.
Maverick McNealy and Matt Kuchar tied for third, two shots back, with Kuchar seeking his first win since 2019. Taylor Pendrith and others followed closely behind.
Vegas and Greyserman became the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings, securing their spots in the upcoming PGA Tour playoffs.
