Hideki Matsuyama Sets New Scoring Record with Victory at The Sentry 2025

Hideki Matsuyama achieved a historic milestone by winning The Sentry tournament in Kapalua, Hawaii, with a record-setting score of 35-under par.

This performance not only secured his 11th career victory on the PGA Tour but also marked the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history, surpassing Cameron Smith’s previous record of 34-under set in 2022.

In the final round on January 5, Matsuyama shot an impressive 8-under 65, finishing three strokes ahead of Collin Morikawa, who placed second with a score of 32-under. Matsuyama’s remarkable play included an eagle on the par-4 third hole and seven birdies throughout the round.

Reflecting on his performance, Matsuyama expressed his excitement about achieving the record: “I thought the record might be 34 or 35, but I wasn’t certain… I’m pleased it did go in” after sinking a crucial birdie on the final hole.

This victory also adds to his achievements from the past year, where he won two other tournaments, showcasing his continued dominance in the sport.

The Sentry featured a significant purse of $20 million, with Matsuyama taking home $3.6 million for his victory, further solidifying his status as one of the top players in golf history.
