World No. 2 Nelly Korda emphasized that the key to excelling in team golf events is “never saying sorry.” Speaking ahead of the 2025 Grant Thornton Invitational, she explained that staying positive helps partners handle mistakes and maintain confidence. Korda will team up with Denny McCarthy for the mixed event, which airs live on Sky Sports Golf.

A Unique Mixed-Team Format

Launched in 2023, the tournament pairs PGA and LPGA players and features three formats across three rounds.

  • Friday: Scramble
  • Saturday: Foursomes (alternate shot)
  • Sunday: Modified four-ball, where partners tee off, switch balls for the second shot, and continue with that ball until holed

Korda said the event strengthens collaboration between the LPGA and PGA Tours and brings excitement to fans by showcasing shared skill and support.

The Power of Positivity

Korda stressed that team competitions demand patience and encouragement. Players will inevitably hit good and bad shots, but dwelling on errors hurts momentum. Instead, she focuses on supporting her partner and reinforcing confidence.

Denny McCarthy agreed, noting that their goal is to enjoy the week and navigate tricky formats together. He praised Korda’s consistency, short-game skills, and composed on-course demeanor, adding that he still uses techniques he picked up from her during their previous pairing.

Building Bonds Beyond the Course

McCarthy also highlighted the strong relationships formed during team events. Their caddies became close friends after playing together three years ago and are even staying together again this week. He said he was excited to reunite with Korda and compete as a team once more.
