With a magnificent display at the Regions Tradition, Doug Barron emerged as the victor of his first major title on the PGA Tour Champions. Steven Alker was two strokes behind him in second place.
By putting together an error-free round of 4-under-par 68, Barron amassed a total score of 17-under-par 271 and clinched victory at Greystone Golf Course – this marked his third triumph on the tour circuit for seasoned professionals.
Barron achieved a noteworthy feat by winning the Regions Tradition tournament, which ended his dry spell in major victories following the 2021 Shaw Charity Classic. Despite facing tough competition from experienced veterans such as Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington – both Hall of Famers – Barron remained composed and emerged victorious.
Reflecting on his emotional victory, Barron expressed gratitude for his improved putting performance, crediting his coach, Jonathan Fly, for the valuable lessons. “It was a dream come true to beat all these great players,” remarked Barron, emphasizing the significance of his accomplishment.
Steven Alker showcased his prowess with an impressive final round, matching the tournament record for Greystone with a stellar score of 63. However, Barron’s consistency and resilience proved impossible as he sealed the victory with a comfortable finish on the final hole.
Despite early challenges from Els and Harrington, who held a share of the lead entering the final round, Barron maintained his focus. He capitalized on his steady play to secure the win. Notable contenders such as Steve Stricker and Stewart Cink made valiant efforts to challenge Barron’s lead but ultimately fell short in their bids for victory.
After a solid showing at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, earning him second place, Barron secured another victory at the Regions Tradition. This major win solidifies his position as a potent contender for PGA Tour Champions and signals more triumphs in future events.
As golf enthusiasts celebrate Doug Barron’s historic achievement, anticipation mounts for future tournaments where Barron aims to continue his winning streak and etch his name among the sport’s elite champions.
