15-Year-Old Amateur Inspires at LPGA Event, Aims to Empower Black Golfers!

Aiming to inspire other Black golfers with her remarkable journey, Ashley Shaw is ready to debut in the LPGA Tour at just 15 years of age. Hailing from Litchfield, Arizona, she secured a spot in the Cognizant Founders Cup after winning the John Shippen Cognizant Cup—a significant step forward for promoting diversity in golf!

In collaboration with the Shippen, the Cognizant Founders Cup endeavors to enhance diversity in golf, particularly for Black female golfers. Shaw’s one-over 73 at Upper Montclair Country Club earned her the spot, making her the lone amateur in the field. 

As she looks back on her trajectory, Ashley Shaw admits to grappling with difficulties as a novice player in golf. “When I first started, I didn’t quite feel like I belonged there,” she discloses while underlining the significance of tenacity when surmounting obstacles. Her involvement in the LPGA tournament encourages individuals battling comparable hardships.

“I hope others can learn from me: Don’t let the situation you’re in dictate what you’re going to continue to do,” Shaw asserts, emphasizing resilience in the face of adversity. Her story resonates with aspiring golfers, highlighting the transformative power of determination and dedication.
