Keegan Bradley has been named the captain of the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup team, much to everyone’s surprise as he had previously not made it onto the roster for 2023. Despite being snubbed from the upcoming competition, Bradley will now lead America at Bethpage Black in New York next year.

This announcement comes after months of speculation that Tiger Woods would be the captain. However, Woods declined the role due to concerns about balancing the captaincy with his responsibilities as a player director for the PGA Tour policy board.

Bradley, recognized for his fervor and dynamism, has been an unforeseen selection as captain in the Ryder Cup annals. Turning 39 next autumn, he will be the youngest American to hold this title after Arnold Palmer’s reign in 1963. As of now holding rank 19th worldwide with two wins from last season – comprising Travelers Championship- Bradley is a steady contender on PGA Tour having obtained a respectable position at FedExCup standing (37th) during current proceedings.

Despite his attempts, Bradley was not picked for the 2023 Ryder Cup team and finished in eleventh place within the points standings. The choice to exclude Bradley from Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, and Jordan Spieth sparked backlash due to the U.S.A team’s significant defeat of five points while playing in Rome.

Bradley’s appointment signals a potential shift for Team USA, which has traditionally selected former assistants as captains. Bradley, having played in only two Ryder Cups and one Presidents Cup, brings a fresh perspective. He famously vowed not to unpack his suitcase from the 2012 Ryder Cup until he won the event, highlighting his enduring commitment to the competition.

Bradley has regional ties to Bethpage Black, located near New York City, which promises a vibrant atmosphere as the Americans aim to continue their home dominance. “My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger,” Bradley said. “The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport, and this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course.”

The announcement comes later than usual, with the PGA typically naming the next captain in early spring. The Europeans have already announced that Luke Donald will return as captain after his successful term in Italy.

Keegan Bradley and PGA president John Lindert will address the media at noon ET Tuesday in New York, with live coverage on Golf Channel.
