Jim Furyk is set to return as United States captain for the Ryder Cup in 2027 at Adare Manor, marking a second opportunity to lead the American side in one of golf’s biggest team competitions.

The 55-year-old previously captained Team USA at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris, where his side suffered a heavy 17.5 to 10.5 defeat to Europe. Despite that result, Furyk remains a highly experienced figure within the U.S. setup, having been involved in Ryder Cup teams for nearly three decades as a player, vice-captain and captain.

Jim Furyk will become one of only a handful of American captains to lead the team more than once in the modern era. His extensive background includes nine consecutive appearances as a player from 1997 to 2014, along with roles as vice-captain in multiple editions, including the most recent contests.

The decision comes after Tiger Woods, who had been widely considered a leading candidate for the role, ruled himself out of contention. With the U.S. team looking to respond after consecutive losses, including defeats in Rome and New York, experience appears to have been a key factor in the selection.

Furyk has previously spoken about his passion for the role, highlighting how much he values being involved behind the scenes. He noted that while captains do not see as much on-course action as expected, the responsibility of assessing players and contributing to strategy was something he deeply enjoyed.

The United States will face a strong European side led again by Luke Donald, who will be aiming to guide Europe to another victory on home soil. Europe has dominated recent meetings, particularly in events held overseas, adding further pressure on the American team heading into 2027.

With a wealth of experience and a renewed opportunity, Furyk will be tasked with guiding the United States as they attempt to reclaim the Ryder Cup in Ireland.
