The PGA TOUR schedule is undergoing a complete review by the new Future Competitions Committee, and Tiger Woods, its chair, expects the final product to be “far better than what we have now for everyone involved.”

Woods addressed the committee’s work and potential schedule changes during a press conference at the Hero World Challenge. Although he avoided specifics, he said the group has evaluated numerous scheduling models and continues to test options. The goal is to introduce the redesigned structure for 2027, though the deadline is flexible.

Extensive Consultation Behind the Redesign

Woods explained that the committee has spoken with title sponsors, business leaders, tournament directors, media partners and players to identify the best direction. Their aim is to build a schedule that serves all stakeholders.

“Hopefully we get to that point,” Woods said. “We’re working with our partners to create the best schedule and product for 2027. I don’t know if we can reach that target, but that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Who Is Shaping the Future Competitions Committee?

Formed in August, the nine-member committee has met three times, though Woods said they communicate daily. Woods chairs the group and is one of six active players, alongside Adam Scott, Patrick Cantlay, Maverick McNealy, Keith Mitchell and Camilo Villegas. Three business executives – Joe Gordon, John Henry and Theo Epstein – complete the panel.

PGA TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp outlined three principles as the foundation of their work: parity, scarcity and simplicity. The committee aims to reinforce the TOUR’s merit-based structure, increase fan engagement by bringing top players together more often, and better link the regular season to the postseason to elevate the TOUR Championship.

Aiming for Significant, Not Incremental, Change

Rolapp emphasized the intention to make meaningful adjustments rather than minor improvements. The committee is considering two possible approaches: a dramatic, immediate overhaul or a gradual rollout that evolves year after year.

Much remains undecided, but Woods expressed strong confidence in the project’s direction.

A Blank-Slate Approach to the Tour’s Future

Woods said they started with an entirely clean slate. They reviewed thousands of ideas, along with feedback from interviews with industry partners, to guide their decision-making.

“We started with a blank sheet of paper,” Woods said. “You throw ideas on the board, add input from everyone we interviewed, and sort through it. I think in the end we’ll have a product that is far better than what we have now for everyone involved.”
