Keegan Bradley hailed his 2025 season as one of the strongest of his career, yet he still graded it an “F.” His performance on the course could not outweigh the burden of captaining the losing U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Bradley admitted that the disappointment wiped away memories of his victories. Even when his coach reminded him about his win earlier in the year, Bradley said he barely recalled it.
Why the Ryder Cup Loss Hit Hard
Bradley’s emotional connection to the Ryder Cup deepened the impact. After more than a decade of fighting to return to the event following the 2014 defeat, he cherished the chance to lead the 2026 team at Bethpage Black. He grew up playing the course during college and described the captaincy as a dream.
Instead, the months that followed the loss felt like the opposite.
“It was the darkest time of my life,” Bradley said, calling it the most difficult period of his career.
Bradley Takes Full Responsibility
Justin Thomas recently suggested the Bethpage Black grounds crew resisted ideal green speeds, but Bradley refused to shift blame. He insisted the responsibility for the loss rests with him alone.
“I blame myself for that loss,” he said. “It would be nice to blame something else, but we can’t.”
Moving Forward After a Devastating Defeat
Bradley said he has started to feel more like himself as he prepared for tournament play again. He won The Skins Game in Florida on Black Friday before heading to The Bahamas for the Hero World Challenge.
“It’s been tough for all of us,” he said. “When I see my teammates, I just want to sit down and talk.”
Hopes for Another Opportunity
Bradley noted he could still make another Ryder Cup team as a player, something no losing captain has done. He also said he “would love to” captain again, though he acknowledged that decision is out of his hands.
He described the loss as a permanent gap in his career, one he may never get a chance to repair.
“I would love to avenge that loss,” Bradley said. “Most losing captains want another shot. I would love mine, even if it never comes.”
