The DP World Tour has unveiled the Rory McIlroy Award, a new annual honor recognizing the member who performs best across all four major championships each season.
The award, named after one of Europe’s most accomplished golfers, will debut in 2026, with the winner determined by the most Race to Dubai points earned across that year’s majors.
Celebrating McIlroy’s Historic Career Grand Slam
McIlroy made history earlier this year by becoming the first European golfer to complete the career Grand Slam, claiming the Masters title after a playoff victory over Justin Rose. His other major wins include the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championships, and The Open Championship in 2014.
He joins an elite group of just six players, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and now Rory McIlroy, to have won all four men’s major titles.
McIlroy Calls the Honor “Humbling”
Speaking at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, where he is pursuing a record seventh Race to Dubai title, McIlroy described the award as a “huge honour” and said he hopes it will inspire future generations.
“To have something named after you that will be presented to future players is incredibly humbling,” McIlroy said. “The majors represent the pinnacle of our sport, and I hope this motivates others to chase their own dreams.”
McIlroy Ineligible to Win the Award
The DP World Tour clarified that McIlroy himself will be ineligible to receive the award. If he finishes first in Race to Dubai points across the majors, the trophy will go to the next-highest finisher.
The Rory McIlroy Award aims to celebrate consistent excellence in golf’s biggest events, further cementing McIlroy’s legacy as a driving force in the modern game.
