Aaron Rai claimed his third DP World Tour title after defeating fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood in a tense playoff at Yas Links. The win marked the biggest victory of Rai’s career and secured his spot in the Race to Dubai finale.

Huge Payout From $9 Million Purse

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the first of two DP World Tour Play-Offs, carried a $9 million purse. Every player in the 72-man, no-cut field received a share of the prize fund.

Rai took home €1,318,102 ($1.53 million), while Fleetwood earned €849,829 ($990,000) as runner-up. The victory also awarded Rai 1,500 Race to Dubai points, boosting him 46 spots to ninth in the rankings.

Rory McIlroy and Nicolai Højgaard tied for third, each collecting €437,922 ($506,000). McIlroy’s top-three finish strengthened his hold on the top position in the Race to Dubai standings.

The Abu Dhabi stop was critical in determining who advances to the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates. With this victory, Rai secures his place among the top 50 players heading to the Earth Course for the season finale.

Fleetwood and McIlroy remain strong contenders, while rising stars like Marco Penge and Rasmus Højgaard continue to chase valuable points in their pursuit of glory.
