Jon Rahm described Europe’s Ryder Cup victory in New York as “mentally the toughest week” of his life, yet also “the most fun I’ve had.” He reflected on the complex mix of emotions he experienced while competing in a setting he called “inhospitable,” admitting that parts of the event left him in disbelief.

Crowd Behavior That Tested Composure

Rahm pointed to the extreme fan atmosphere at Bethpage Black as a major challenge. He criticized the early sale of alcohol, saying by 9 a.m. things were already spiraling out of control.

The noise from 50,000 people, he explained, meant he could hear everything as he moved about the course, a constant sensory overload. Despite the pressure, he said delivering for his team made the experience particularly rewarding.

Looking Ahead: Spain, Records, and Passion

With Ryder Cup emotions still fresh, Rahm shifts his focus to the Spanish Open, where he is chasing a fourth title, and hoping to tie or surpass his idol Seve Ballesteros in all-time wins.

He acknowledged that replicating the intensity of Bethpage would be difficult, but noted that a future Ryder Cup in Spain, like in 2031, could carry even greater personal weight. Rahm enters that pursuit with renewed motivation, remembering both the turbulence and triumph of his New York week.
