Twenty-eight-year-old Englishman Daniel Brown clinched his second DP World Tour title at the BMW International Open in Munich with a flawless final round of 66, securing a two-stroke victory.
Playing at Golfclub München-Eichenried, he finished at 22-under-par, two shots clear of compatriot Jordan Smith and capping off an emotional and memorable week.
A Tribute to a Friend
Brown dedicated the win to a close friend who passed away just days before the tournament. He admitted that his focus throughout the weekend was largely driven by his friend’s memory, saying it helped him stay steady and suppress overwhelming emotion.
After sinking his final birdie putt, he described the experience as almost “out-of-body,” explaining that the victory was, above all, for his late friend.
Final Round Dominance
Brown and Smith were paired together for Sunday’s finale. Both opened strong, trading birdies through the first six holes and reaching the turn at 20-under. Brown then pulled ahead with a birdie at the 12th, while Smith dropped shots.
Brown extended his cushion with another gain on the 16th and closed out with a birdie on the par-5 18th, finishing clear at 22-under. Smith’s closing 67 earned him second place again, echoing his runner-up finish from the previous year.
Field’s Best and Home Interest
Behind the leading pair, New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori shot the round of the week, a 63, to claim solo third at 18-under. A competitive group including Kristoffer Reitan, Joost Luiten, Davis Bryant, and France’s Frederic Lacroix shared fourth place at 16-under.
Of the German contingent, Matti Schmid stood out as the low home player, finishing tied seventh at 15-under.
Impacts and Future Momentum
This win propels Brown up the Race to Dubai rankings and boosts his confidence heading into upcoming summer events like the Scottish Open and The Open Championship at Portrush.
His precision and emotional resilience under pressure show he’s not just playing for trophies but also for someone he deeply cared about.
