Final Qualifying for the 153rd Open Championship will take place on July 1 across four historic venues, including Burnham & Berrow and Royal Cinque Ports. A number of high-profile players are competing for their chance to tee it up at Royal Portrush. Among them are major winners Graeme McDowell and Danny Willett, former world number one Lee Westwood, and experienced names like Paul Casey.
PGA, DP World Tour and LIV Players
At Burnham & Berrow, the field includes notable names like Justin Rose and Eddie Pepperell, who is making a return after a break to manage burnout. Harry Hall, a rising PGA Tour regular who recently claimed victory at the ISCO Championship, will also be in the mix. Veterans of the DP World Tour, including Oliver Wilson and Jamie Donaldson, will be pushing hard to secure Open spots.
Royal Cinque Ports features a competitive lineup, with Ian Poulter attempting to qualify for his first major since 2022. His LIV Golf colleague Graeme McDowell is looking to make a return to the Open in his home country. Also joining the field is Erik van Rooyen, returning to Open qualifying for the first time in several years.
Dundonald Links in Scotland will host Lee Westwood, who has multiple top-four Open finishes and is hoping to make one more championship appearance. He will compete alongside Alex Noren and Rafa Cabrera Bello. Over at West Lancashire, 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett joins a strong field that includes Alex Fitzpatrick and Kevin Chappell.
Why One Star Is Sitting Out
Conspicuously missing from the list is Sergio Garcia. The seasoned Spanish golfer has opted not to take part in Final Qualifying. Instead, he has expressed confidence in earning a place through his world ranking and believes that his current form will be enough to avoid the extra step. His absence highlights the various qualification routes available, including exemptions and official rankings.
