Julien Guerrier Wins First DP World Tour Title After 230 Starts and Nine-Hole Playoff in Spain

Julien Guerrier got his first at the age of thirty one after 230 tour starts when he won the DP World Tour Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters held in Spain. The 39-year-old Frenchman yesterday saw out a thrilling nine-hole playoff cut with local favorite, 44-year old Gijon born Jorge Campillo at the Real Club of Golf Sotogrande.

Guerrier’s steady play was on full display, as he held his nerve and made nine consecutive pars during the playoff, clinching the title with an 8-foot putt on the final extra hole. “I can’t believe I made it,” Guerrier said, reflecting on his long-awaited win. “We work really hard every week for this, and today it went my way. I’m very happy.”

Julien Guerrier’s Long Journey to Victory

The victory marked a significant milestone for Guerrier, who had twice won on other tours but had struggled to find his footing at the DP World Tour level. His persistence paid off, as he matched Jorge Campillo shot for shot during the final round. Guerrier carded birdies early in the round but faced challenges, including a bogey on the 10th hole and a double bogey on the 13th.

Another Spaniard that had it rough throughout the day was Campillo but his bogey on the last hole enabled Guerrier to take it to a playoff. In the later holes, Guerrier’s opponent also missed vital greens and chances, but the young golfer won the final putter saying that his family was supporting him.

After years of perseverance, Julien Guerrier now stands as a DP World Tour champion.
