Shane Lowry and 17 Olympians Set to Compete in Wyndham Championship!

Shane Lowry will head straight from Paris to Greensboro, North Carolina, to compete in this week’s Wyndham Championship. Shane Lowry is among 18 Olympians in the field for the PGA Tour’s regular-season finale.

Shane Lowry’s Quest for FedEx Cup Success

Ranked 10th in the FedEx Cup standings, Shane Lowry trails only Sungjae Im (9th) as an Olympian at this event. By finishing among the top 70 players, he is assured of participating in the FedEx St. Jude Invitational and BMW Championship playoffs; however, he desires to qualify for the East Lake Tournament, which would be his maiden experience, while competing fiercely for victory in the FedEx Cup series championship title.

“I was trying to make the decision over the last couple of weeks because if I didn’t do well in The Open, I wasn’t going to chase it,” Lowry said. “But I also hate the unknown. I sat down with my coach and my team last week, and we decided that this is probably one of the best chances I’ll ever have to win the FedEx Cup. Every point counts, so if I can make a hundred FedEx Cup points next week, it’s certainly going to help.”

Top Contenders and Bubble Players

Incorporated in the Wyndham Championship lineup are 21 players listed within the FedEx Cup current top 50 who have ensured their participation in next year’s notable occasions. This set of contenders encompasses names such as Keegan Bradley, Denny McCarthy, Will Zalatoris, Mac Hughes, Jake Knapp, Harris English, Austin Eckroat, and Nick Taylor.

Several players are on the bubble for the top-70 race, including:

  • Mark Hubbard (65)
  • Nick Dunlap (66)
  • Jhonattan Vegas (67)
  • Emiliano Grillo (68)
  • Seamus Power (69)
  • Brendon Todd (70)
  • Victor Perez (71)
  • Davis Riley (72)
  • Andrew Putnam (73)
  • Kurt Kitayama (74)
  • Luke List (75)

The 156-player field also features sponsor exemptions like Florida State junior Luke Clanton and new pro-Michael Thorbjornsen. Q-School grad Raul Pereda and KFT grad Scott Gutschewski are on the alternate list.

As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on Shane Lowry, who is on a quest to accumulate points and secure his place at East Lake.
